St Edwards Church, Eggbuckland, Plymouth
We held a green communion service to celebrate the launch of St. Edwards as an Eco-church. We had guest speaker, Dr. Hilary Marlow, who spoke about our responsibility as Christians to be good stewards of the Earth. We used A Rocha prayers and liturgy which made the service very moving and powerful.
High Street Baptist Church, Tring
We celebrated with a ‘Green Communion’ on Sunday 12 February as the second of two ‘Global Mission’ Sundays. We were delighted to welcome Simon and Elaine Brown to our service and Simon gave a wonderful children’s talk and was interviewed, chat-show style by our minister Revd Andrew Cowley, as part of our morning worship service. We had a display area with information about Eco Church and our local Transition group and in the afternoon we screened the Leonardo DiCaprio film, ‘Before The Flood’.

St Paul Old Ford
St Paul Old Ford in Bow, east London, registered with Eco Church last September and held their first-ever Environment Sunday on 5 February, which included celebrating Green Communion. Songs and prayers had been carefully chosen to tie in with the theme, and the congregation all joined in an act of eco commitment. It’s early days on the church’s eco journey but they were excited and encouraged to discover after the service that they’re eligible for a Bronze award already! The photo shows St Paul’s ‘eco champion’, Maxine Morgan (left), with vicar Revd James Hughesdon and the speaker at the service, Jean Morgan.

We celebrated the first anniversary of Eco Church launch with the suggested green communion on the theme of the earth is the Lord’s. First creating a tableau in the order of creation with people carrying the different features to the table during the singing the Francis of Assisi hymn, All creatures of our God and King. The sermon was how to live out of gratitude and with generosity to others (2Cor 9:11).
